This truly INSANE scene showcases perfectly the kind of grotesque over-the-top style that I love Hong Kong-cinema for (at least the stuff that was made before the mid 1990s). Looks like Walter Hill taking a vacation in HK while on acid. Unfortunately, Chinese censors seemed to have their ways with the scene before release... This was featured in Kirk Wong's 1981 pre-Heroic-Bloodshed-era "The Club", which has now become largely forgotten (it has a total of 12 (!) votes on imdb) and is not available anywhere in the world (if you're fortunate, like me, you might get an old UK-VHS-copy from ebay). Film is starring Michael Chan Wai Man (ex-triad member and action director on this film, who considers it "the best Gangster film ever to come out of Hong Kong"), Kent Cheng Jak Si, Norman Chu Siu Keung, Fong Yau (that's him getting killed, you may remember him from Ringo Lam's "City on Fire", if you can identify the 2 assassins, I'd appreciate it), Kwan Yung Moon, Cally Kwong Mei Wan, Wilson Tong Wai Shing and Philip Ko Fei. Great 80's haircuts and clothes, by the way...Update: The two guys who play the assassins are Wilson Tong Wai-Shing ( 唐偉成 ) and (the guy with the mustache) Richard Cheung Kuen ( 張權 ), who was also the producer of this film. |
